She stepped deeper into the sanctum, each breath echoing softly against the cavernous ceiling. Dust motes drifted lazily through shafts of silver light, seemingly undisturbed for centuries.

“I must find the core,” she whispered. The ancient temple responded with a low, resonating hum—a vibration she felt in the very marrow of her bones as the dust stirred around her feet.

As she rounded the final ascent, the architecture shifted. The rough-hewn stone gave way to polished obsidian, mirroring her cautious reflection in the gloom. It was a perfect mirror, untarnished by the eons.

A pedestal sat at the exact center of the chamber, bathed in an ethereal, shifting glow. Resting atop it was the artifact—the very thing the high council had strictly forbidden her to seek.

If the legends were true, touching it would bind her soul to the world's ancient leylines forever. She hesitated, her hand hovering mere inches from the pulsating surface.
